Movie Review Of "Lafangey Parindey"

Lafangey ParindeyAfter the 2007 box-office dud "Laaga Chunri Mein Daag", director Pradeep Sarkar looks forward to securing a hit with "Lafangey Parindey", an unusual love story about a blind ambitious girl and a street fighter that releases Friday.

Produced under the banner of Yash Raj Films, "Lafangey Parindey" is about Nandu (Neil) who fights blindfolded and visually challenged Pinky Palkar (Deepika), who can dance on skates.

While Nandu is fierce and hungry to win, Pinky's ambition is to rise above all the 'losers' living in her locality and carve a niche for herself. They, along with a group of friends, set out on a journey to achieve the impossible.

Deepika calls it one of the most challenging films of her career.

"For me, this role out of all the films that I have done was the most challenging. It's not been easy. It required a lot of focus and concentration. I had to observe a lot of blind people before I could play this role, " Deepika told.

"The biggest challenge was to pretend that I was not seeing. There were no supporting tools like black goggles or a stick with me to make it obvious that I am blind, " she added.

The actress along with other cast and crew spent time with visually challenged people to understand their behavioural nuances and figure out counter actions.

The film will have some daring stunts and both the actors have performed them themselves.

Neil admits he was covered in bruises for a major part of the shoot but insists that before he attempted the death-defying action sequences, he was properly trained by action director Sham Kaushal.

"There's nothing fake about the fists of fury that fly in Pradeep Sarkar's film. It requires the rawest of physical violence and it can't be faked. So if you see me now I'm covered with welters, wounds and bruises, all gifted to me every day while shooting this, the most dangerous film of my career, " Neil had told.

In fact, the actor narrowly escaped a major accident while shooting for the film when his bike went over a manhole and the actor lost his balance. Fortunately, he quickly managed to jump back on and wasn't seriously hurt.

Even Deepika didn't shy away from taking risks. A scene required her to ride a bike and fall into a muddy dip. The director and Neil were wary of Deepika doing such a stunt on her own, but the actress refused to use a body double and successfully performed the stunt on her own.

Whether Neil and Deepika's hard work will pay off is yet to be seen.

Magic happens, if you let it; and sometimes even fate or destiny, or whatever you want to call it, steps in to lend a hand.

But when it concerns love, and finding that special person you're going to spend the rest of your life with, should you risk tempting fate with a test of that love or what is seemingly meant to be, or should you just follow your apparent destiny and embrace it?

Such are the questions two people must face and answer in the romantic comedy/drama. “Milenge Milenge”

This charming romantic comedy has all the right ingredients and serves up a dollap of sugary romance and slapstick fun. Amit (Shahid Kapoor) and Priya (Kareena Kapoor) meet at a Youth festival in Bangkok.

The attraction is instant and they spend days together cavorting around Bangkok City together. At the end of the festival when they are preparing to come back to Delhi, Amit loses Priya’s trust and she decides to end the relationship.

Amit tries to regain her trust by telling her that are destined to be together and Priya decides that if it is fate that they should be together, they will find each other Delhi again, Although both do not know each other’s whereabouts in Delhi.

Years go by and both of them are about to be married, but each still has this nagging feeling that the other was his/her one true love.

Of course fate conspires to bring them back together (after about a dozen very interesting near misses) as they each simultaneously undertake one last attempt to find one another just before they get married to someone else.

So is all of life pre determined, even who our soul mate is? That's the theme explored in Milenge Milenge, a delightful fairytale of a romantic comedy that makes you fall in love all over again.

Akshay Kumar Will Not Do A Faltu Film Even In Rs 15 Crore

Akki won`t do Faltu film even for Rs 15 croreBollywood star Akshay Kumar is known to be a professional when it comes to money but he surprised everyone by denying a lucrative offer from producer Vashu Bhagnani. The producer has reportedly offered the star a whopping amount of Rs 15 crore for starring in his upcoming movie titled Faltu.

Bhagnani is trying by all means to revive the career of his son Jackky Bhagnani. He is following the path of veteran filmmaker Raj Kumar Kohli, who used to cast all the leading heroes in his films to boost the career of his son Armaan Kohli. Now, Vashu is following the same path.

Akshay was offered this huge amount of Rs 15 crore only to work for 10 days in Bhagnani's Faltu, which will star his son Jacky. But Akshay has refused to accept the offer politely saying that he is in dearth of dates now.

Well, Akshay is right because he already has so many projects in hand so it would have been an impossible task for him to manage all of them at the same time. He is already working on Farah Khan's Tees Maar Khan and hosting the Star Plus' show 'Master Chef India'.

There is buzz that initially Vashu approached Sanjay Dutt with an undisclosed amount. But Dutt had reportedly declined it because Vashu did not sign his manager Dharam Oberoi's daughter, Neha. Then Vashu forwarded the offer to Bollywood's 'khiladi' but his bad luck that Akshay also rejected it.

Remo will be directing the movie Faltu with Jacky as the leading hero. Vashu is trying to re-launch his son Jacky, whose debut film Kal Kissne Dekha was a flop last year.

Now, reports say that Vashu has deleted the character, which he wanted Sanjay or Akshay to play.

Is he thinking to cast Jacky as the lone hero now? If this is the case then Vashu is surely taking another huge risk with his money!

Kareena Kapoor & Aamir Khan Will Come Together Again?

Kareena and Aamir to come together againKareena Kapoor and Aamir Khan to shoot ads for same brand of vehicles

Post 3 Idiots, Kareena Kapoor and Aamir Khan will come together... for a two-wheeler brand. The two will be seen in separate advertisements, though.

Bebo will seen riding a scooterette in the ad film. No prizes for guessing, it's the same brand as the one she rode, in the Rajkumar Hirani flick.

Only for the screen

Says an insider, "The actress had learned to ride a bike for a film, and will also be seen on one in Golmaal 3. While she is quite comfortable on a two-wheeler, she never does so off-screen."

Fresh concept

The actress admits, "It's the same brand I rode in 3 Idiots, and it is aimed at girls. The concept is light, young and fresh for college- goers.

Aamir will shoot for the scooters for men. I love scooterettes and bikes. I used to ride them in Goa during my Golmaal 3 shoot, but I can't do that here in Mumbai."

Pradeep Sarkar will helm the ad while Bebo's favourite designer Manish Malhotra will style her. The commercial will be shot on a busy street in Mumbai.

Bebo on bike: 'Risky but fun'

Golmaal 3 director Rohit Shetty says, "Kareena plays a tomboy in G3. She rides a bike in the film and had to be trained for that. We had to give her a lot of free space as she loves to ride fast. The funny thing was I had to ride on the bike with her to take shots as I was holding the camera. It was risky but fun!"

Movie Review Of "Do Dooni Chaar"

Do Dooni ChaarStarring: Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh

Written & Directed by Habib Faizal

Rating: ***

In a season of overblown action-comedies with superstars laying down the ground-rules for dynamic dada-giri on the large screen, it is refreshing and comforting to see an aging world-weary working-class hero who travels to work on a rickety scooter and tries to fulfil his nucleur family’s dreams of a car.

The journey from the two-wheeler to the four is what Do Dooni Chaar is about.

It’s a simple premise peppered and punctuated by scenes and dialogues straight out of a Punjabi middleclass household in Delhi where the two grownup kids dream of BMWs and IPL shares while the father tries to put together money for an Alto and chicken meals for his family.

The film directed by debutant Habib Faizal, has a heartwarming slice-of-life feel to it. Rishi Kapoor, playing a working-class loser for the first time in his career (Shah Rukh in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi 20 years later) pitches in a near-flawless performance as a maths teacher whose students have gone on to own the best cars in the world while he, the gyan guru, remains frozen in his middleclass karma.

Mercifully the neatly scripted (but at times a little under-done) film opts not to focus on the irony of a knowledge-giver’s financial burdens.

Instead the plot cleverly digs out situations where the Duggal family is shown getting into comic crises, such as the wedding at Rishi’s sister’s in-laws’ place where the Duggal parivar has to show up in a borrowed car. These situations written sensibly and enacted convincingly echo the savagery of life for the workingclass without wasting time feeling sorry for the characters.

Not just Rishi’s Kapoor’s character…Even his wife played by the lovely Neetu Singh comes across as unfussy practical clever and sensible householder who makes ends meet not by the size of her husband’s income but by a miraculous mix of common sense and uncommon guts.

It’s a pleasure beyond measure to watch Rishi and Neetu play their real-life roles on screen. For those of us who watched the pair do Khullam khulla pyar in their heydays watching them slip effortlessly into the roles of harried parents seems like a journey well taken.

Add the two teenage actors playing Rishi-Neetu’s son (Archit Krishna) and daughter (Aruna Vasudev) into the plot.

And we are face-to-face with as real a family as it can get in a quirky whimsical earthy and heartwarming saga of a working class family’s promotion in life from the scooter to the automobile.

The script sometimes careens towards a scathing comment on the road taken by the underpaid teaching fraternity country. Blessedly Rishi Kapoor, one of the finest and most underrated actors of our country, plays Santosh Duggal as a bit of a rogue, not averse to shortcuts when the going gets really tough.

The humanization and under-idealization of the knowledge-giver is a clever touch in the script. The debutant director demonstrates substantial scripting skills in the way he leads his protagonist up the road of corruption and then pulls him back from temptation just in time.

On a level that goes beyond entertainment Do Dooni Chaar is actually a timely warning to the architects of the country’s education system.

The film says…don’t let the guru become a shishya of compromised idealism. Pay the teacher well. On the other hand if such a reform in the educationalist’s lives really happened we wouldn’t have the pleasure of seeing Rishi Kapoor deliver such a lived-in bravura performance.

Go for Do Dooni Chaar. Its title says it all, suggesting not only that the protagonist is a mathematician but also that he is constantly trying to count the ways to make his family’s life comfortable.

Here, it all adds up.

Movie Review Of "Khichdi"

Khichdi The MovieStarring: Anang Desai, Supriya Pathak, Rajeev Mehta, Jamnadas Majethia, Nimishi Vakharia

Director: Aatish Kapadia

Rating: ** ½

By the time 'God' Satish Shah shows up to distribute akal ke laddoo to the Gujarati malfuntional brain-dead family that we've known for years on television, they are all too far gone.By dint of dumbness the Parekh family earns exemption from redemption.

Khichdi: The Movie is no different in spirit, cast, gags and skits from Khichdi: The Serial. The cast is the same. And that's a blessing. The enormously talented Gujarati actors are irreplaceable in their proclivity to convey irreverent braindead humour as applied to the gloriously dumb Parekh family that seems like a parody of Sooraj Barjatya's joint-family system.

The family system goes down the cistern with a loud splash as the gags swamp the big-screen with the same velocity of iconoclasm as the serial.

And that's where the trouble lies. While it's delightful to watch Anang Desai (as the patriarch) and his brood, Supriya Pathak (goofily idiotic in her literal perception of life's basic tenets), Rajiv Mehta (so blissfully unintellectual you wonder which came first, the Naïve Gujjus or the jokes about them) and the teekha-faced Nimisha Vakharia as the family's daughter, whoop it up grandly as a family of oblivious ignoramuses, the movie version of Khichdi does not take us any further than the serial.

The humour could have gone an extra mile in the larger space provided. The presentation could have paraded a greater finesse than the sets on television can afford, and the dialogues could do with some fresh polishing up.

Director Aatish Kapadia chooses to let the characters from the serial be exactly the same in the film.

For added cinematic value there's a love story between the scion of the Parekh family Himanshu (Jamnadas Majethia) and the Punjabi girl-nextdoor who lives in family where all the 47 family members are called 'Parminder'.

The Parminder female heir of the family meets her (mindless) match in Himanshu. They want a filmy love story for themselves. Go buy the clichés in the humour store.

The comic conflagration just about manages to prevent an imminent collapse. The material is too thin to hold up a feature film. The jokes are more prone to evoke titters than genuine laughter. And yet the actors make the Parekh family's overpowering silliness look engaging.

Though this is a film about moronic people it secretes a level of intelligence in its treatment and execution. What Khichdi: The Movie tells us finally is that hollow people do not constitute a hollow film. To portray this all-encompassing level of dumbness the director has to rise above his characters' low IQ level.

Aatish Kapadia just about manages that.

Mallika Sherawat Is Not Going To Be Bare?

Surprise! Mallika doesn`t want to go dare-bareMallika Sherawat refuses to indulge in a skinfest for Double Dhamaal

Mallika Sherawat refuses to indulge in a skinfest for Double Dhamaal. The B-Town bombshell, surprisingly, has several reservations about her look and styling in the comic caper.

The sudden change in stance of one of the industry's boldest and sexiest actress has taken the unit unawares.

Informs a source, "Her attitude has left everyone exasperated. It has taken not only the makers but also her co-stars by surprise. She is just not keen on going bare-dare."

Mallika maintains, "It's funny how obsessed everyone is with what I wear when all I am trying to do is, be true to the character."

The actress adds, "First, there were reports that I was in a bikini in the first shot and now, that I've turned into a sati savitri. Neither version is entirely accurate."

In the news

Director Indra Kumar and producer Ashok Thakeria had signed her for the project even though she had been missing from the B-Town scene after her 2008 flick Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam.

She had moved to the US and made news for the promotions of her forthcoming flick Hisss occasionally with a python wrapped around her curves.

Double Dhamaal stars Sanjay Dutt, Kangna Ranaut, Arshad Warsi, Riteish Deshmukh, Aashish Chaudhry and Jaaved Jaafery. Mallika is paired with Dutt.

Buzz was that the actress had given her nod to Double Dhamaal without a discussion over her fee with the makers.

Apparently, she was delighted about being a part of the sequel and more importantly, working with Dutt.

I'm very uncomfortable about talking it. Let the press write and say what it has to. I'm not saying anything. ”

So did Siddharth lose weight on svelte Deepika's say-so?

Speaking of Sid's size Deepika sighs, “Let me put it this way. If someone decides to lose that much weight the willpower has to come from within, and not from someone else. Beyond that I wouldn't know why he lost so much weight. I never had to lose so much weight. ”

She opens up when talking about her career. At the moment it's all very hush-hush. But here's the inside information. Don't Call Ash To Aishwarya Rai?

Please don`t call me Ash: Aishwarya RaiIt seems that Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai is tired of people addressing her by her nickname "Ash" and has requested them to call her by her full name.

"When I joined the industry, people initially used to say they have difficulty in pronouncing my name, so they started calling me 'Ash'. But now, it has been years and I guess, everyone can pronounce it properly," Aishwarya told reporters.

"So I would appreciate, if you people address me by my name - Aishwarya," she added.

The model-turned-actress walked the ramp for designer Manish Malhotra at the ongoing HDIL-India Couture Week and thanked her husband Abhishek for bringing the name issue in the forefront.

It is believed that Abhishek had recently requested some journalists to refer to her by her full name.
