Rani & Kajol's Cousin Made A Come Back

Kin of the famous Mukherjee family, Sharbani Mukherjee is to begin all over again in Hindi films. She was believed to be one of the most promising actresses in the industry after the success of her debut film Border.

But unfortunately fate did not smile on her for long. She faced consecutive flops in her career after Border. Neither the family connection, nor the stardom of the first film brought any big opportunity her way.

On the other hand, her cousins Kajol and Rani climbed the ladder, with one after the other success at the box office and continue to rule the industry till today.

After a small hiatus she has recently done a Malyalam film ‘Sufi Paranja Katha’. And soon she will be back in Hindi films with Sangeeth Sivan’s next. The yet untitled film is due for release in November.

Hope the brown-eyed girl succeeds to charm the audience this time!

Salman Khan Will Gets His Friends Back

It's Salman Khan time in Bollywood. With his full-on actioner "Wanted" becoming a hit, the superstar has millions of rupees riding on his shoulders with three more big-budget films lined up. And all his friends in the industry - from David Dhawan to Vipul Shah - are rejoicing at the actor's success.

"Wanted" earned about Rs.38 crore (Rs.380 million) across the country in its first week and industry experts feel that the film's good business will help Salman's forthcoming releases - "Main aur Mrs. Khanna", "London Dreams" and "Veer".

"Salman always knew when and where to strike. He was always very confident about 'Wanted' and this is the reason why he went all out to promote the film," Dhawan, who has worked with Salman in more than half a dozen films, told.

"Forget first weekend collections; it was sheer havoc when Eid festivities began. Audience response inside auditoriums was unprecedented," he added.

Directed by Prabhu Deva, "Wanted" was a raw action-drama comparable to Aamir Khan's "Ghajini".

"Salman may have done one or two bad films in recent times due to which it appeared to some that he was no more in the reckoning. They were mistaken though because he is beyond hits and flops," said Abbas Burmawalla of director duo Abbas-Mustan.

"His strong fan base could sense from a distance that 'Wanted' was a film to watch out for and turned it into such a huge success," he added.

Salman's "Yuvvraaj" and "God Tussi Great Ho" bombed at the box office and many believed he was down and out. But the industry doesn't quite believe so.

" 'Wanted' is Salman's one-man show. Yes, everyone involved with the film has done a fabulous job, but it is Salman's pull that got the audiences into theatres. Otherwise director Prabhu Deva was making his first Hindi film while Ayesha Takia isn't amongst the top three heroines that we have today," said Sanjay Kapoor, brother of Boney Kapoor who produced "Wanted".

"He gave 'Wanted' his full support and led the entire promotional campaign. He was supremely excited about the film and gave his heart, body, soul and time to its making followed by promotion," he added.

Vipul Shah, who has worked with Salman in the film "London Dreams" that releases Oct 30, is happy that Salman's three-film stint this year has got off to a good start with "Wanted".

"My promotion plan though is not as expensive as that of 'Wanted'.

We are going right ahead in creating awareness around 'London Dreams', but the spillover of 'Wanted' should also help our campaign. Since 'Wanted' is all over, I am sure the euphoria and Salman's presence amongst audiences will continue for many more weeks to come," said Shah.

Filmmaker Suneel Darshan, who has never worked with Salman, is a little guarded before declaring this as a golden run of the actor.

" 'Wanted' has done quite well in India but its fate in the overseas market has been contradictory. With crores of rupees riding on his shoulders in the current season on 'Veer', 'London Dreams' and 'Main aur Mrs. Khanna', all due to release shortly, god forbid if anything goes wrong, it will have severe repercussions on the industry's economy. This is just another interesting phase for Salman...," he said.

Himesh Reshammiya, with whom Salman has had a decade-long association, has a final word though. "Salman was a superstar, is a superstar and will always remain a superstar."

Ranbir Unlucky In Love

Do we see a psychological pattern here? What’s it with Ranbir Kapoor playing the spurned lover over and over again?

He started his career with Saawariya where he worshipped the ground that Sonam Kapoor walked in. She had eyes only for Salman.

Then in Bachna Ae Haseenon Deepika Padukone said a flat no to Ranbir’s proposal.

And now in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani Ranbir again wooes the girl with his one-sided attentions almpst playing Katrina Kaif’s faithful poodle hanging around her unconditionally.

Raj Kumar Santoshi who returns to comedy after 15 years says he wanted Ranbir to play the unrequited lover-boy with a difference.

“Ajab Prem…. is a film about an unrequited love. I didn’t want Ranbir to play the loser in love as a tragic hero. Chaplin and Ranbir’s grandfather Raj Kapoor excelled in playing tragic losers in love. I don’t think the youngsters identify with”

Hasn’t Ranbir already done the role of an unrequited lover in Saawariya?

Raj Santoshi agrees, “Yes. But not in this zany and upbeat way. Though Ranbir’s character is loses out in love he doesn’t lose heart for even a second. He remains blindly devoted and besotted right till the end while Katrina just keeps taking him for granted.”

Quite like Sonam in Saawariya.

Julia Roberts Welcome To Bollywood

Some Bollywood stars are flying about 1200 kilometers north to Pataudi (India) to host a dinner in honor of Julia Roberts, who is currently shooting for “Eat, Play, Love”, according to reports.

The list reportedly includes Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Sharmila Tagore, etc.

Tagore, who is chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) of India, has reportedly already met Roberts.

Government regulatory body CBFC is “responsible for certifying the films produced in India as well as outside the country suitable for public exhibition”.

Sonam Kapoor Beated Priyanka, Kareena & Katrina

Two film-old actress Sonam Kapoor has beaten the likes of Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif to emerge as the best dressed celebrity in India, according to People magazine.

"My style isn't about trends. I don't let the clothes wear me, I wear them, " said the 24-year-old about her style statement.

On the list, Kareena holds second position, Priyanka is third, Twinkle Khanna on fourth and Katrina on fifth slot.

Sonam, daughter of Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor, made her acting debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Saawariya" opposite Ranbir Kapoor and later featured in "Delhi 6".

She’s presently shooting for papa Anil Kapoor’s home production Ayesha which is a desi adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel ‘Emma’.

Saif Ali Khan Feels Proud To Did Kurbaan

His "Love Aaj Kal" has completed 50 days at the box office and has earned more than Rs.65 crores (Rs.650 million) just within India. Now actor-producer Saif Ali Khan is looking forward to "Kurbaan" - a film he admits he is proud of having acted in being a Muslim.

"As a Muslim I feel proud of the fact that I have done this film. This is one of the most socially relevant films today. It is good that it is coming at just the time when our country needs cinema like this, " Saif told in an interview.

Set in the US, "Kurbaan" is a romantic thriller with terrorism as its backdrop.

A Karan Johar production directed by debutant Rensil D'Silva, "Kurbaan" also stars Kareena Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi, Dia Mirza, Kirron Kher and Om Puri. It is slated to release Nov 27.

Saif reveals that he now has a new career plan in place. "I would now be working on two-three films a year and make sure that I cover a wide spectrum. While a couple of them would be big, nice commercial films, another would be a relatively smaller film that can be completed in 30 days flat."

After "Love Aaj Kal", his next production venture is "Agent Vinod". But shooting for the film is still a little distance away.

"Final touches on the script are being given and we have been looking at getting the best technicians on board. I guess by the end of this year, we should begin shooting.

"In any case I am in no tearing hurry to ready my next film. One should space things out, invest good time to publicise things and get the right preparation in place for the making of the film, " said Saif.

He is also careful that his personal life, especially his health, doesn't suffer due to his professional commitments.

"It is of paramount importance that one looks after the body as well as brain. I go to the gym regularly as well as spend some good time with family. As far as work is concerned, I have certainly become even more serious about production after 'Love Aaj Kal'.

"We have learnt quite some lessons after the release of our first film and the idea is to leverage from some mistakes that we may have made. My investment as a producer is bound to increase from here on."

Meanwhile, the success of "Love Aaj Kal" and "Race" (2008) have made it closer for him to the top-five league. While Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan and Salman Khan are firmly placed in the top league, Saif too is not that far away.

"I don't know much about that. All such number placements are for other people to state, study and analyse. As for me, I know today that I'm in a position to make the film that I want to make.

I am also confident that the film I would make will carry some meaning to people. My project should now carry certain amount of weight and direction and for that one has to be a bankable star."

He continues to shrug away the entire numbers game.

"This number business is quite fluctuating actually; so one should not be worried about it. What you should worry about more is that now since people have higher expectations from you, you should deliver even better in your next assignments, " Saif said.

Anushka Manchanda Became Disciplined

Injuries notwithstanding, pop star-turned-VJ-turned-playback singer Anushka Manchanda is happy to be part of adventure reality show "Khatron Ke Khiladi-Level 2". She admits it has given her "memorable" injuries but says it has disciplined her.

"My life was very undisciplined (before the show) partly because of my career and partly by choice. But I don't think the kind of discipline that I had to maintain over there I've maintained it in my entire life, " Anushka told over telephone from Mumbai.

"Waking up at four in the morning, sleeping around nine and eating on time - this was for me like going to a hostel or a school where you stand in a line with the other girls and where Akshay Kumar is the principal, " added the 24-year-old.

Anushka, who is still to shoot for the show's finale, says she will cherish the experience. "It was very stressful and very exciting, but the experience has just been awesome."

"Khatron Ke Khiladi" is the Indian version of popular international show "Fear Factor".

Level two of the Indian version started with 13 celebrity women, including Mandira Bedi, Shweta Salve, Rosa Catalano, Sushma Reddy, Carol Gracias, Bruna Abdullah, Rupali Ganguly, Nauheed Cyrusi, Pia Trivedi, Jesse Randhawa, Shonali Nagrani and professional wrestler Sonika apart from Anushka.

Shot in Cape Town, the show is aired on Colors and requires each of the contestants along with their male partners to compete with each other to win the prize money of Rs.5 million.

The stunts performed during the show also led to injuries for the girls.

"Nobody's gone home without an injury...Sonika had stitches on her chin. Nauheed had a neck injury. I have a scar on my inner arm because of a rope burn, which I am very proud to show and I even got rashes on my face after a cockroach stunt, " she said.

"Jesse's got one on her wrist. Shweta had black and blue marks all over her legs while Pia's hands were literally cut. Girls really got hurt. They did, " added Anushka, who was Shweta's room mate during the show.

Not many know that the participants also got Sundays off.

"The shoot was about three weeks but luckily we did get Sundays off unlike in Level 1. We managed to spend some time together and know the girls. We went out, had lunch together and shopped. We used to look forward to Sundays there.

"We made some good friends and it was really nice to have someone for support there, especially when you have women supporting women, " explained Anushka, who also claims to have cried the "maximum" there.

As far as stunts go, while she enjoyed a "chopper stunt" the most, she found the "flush tank" the most difficult of all.

"The most enjoyable stunt for me was the chopper stunt but Flush Tank was the most difficult stunt. It's a cylinder kind of object pushed into the water and then pulled up... You have to get inside the cylinder and you unclip the flags from your waist and you clip it at the top.

"Once you are inside that thing, you have to wait for 2 0 seconds before they open it. There is no place to breathe. I swallowed so much water in that stunt and I started banging on the glass after putting one flag. That stunt was so scary considering I am slightly claustrophobic and I am not comfortable being under water, " she explained.

Salman & Katrina's Affair Is Over?

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif have shocked people with their coldness towards each other at Percept Picture Company’s party recently. The party, which was thrown to celebrate Kanchivaram’s National Award, win on Tuesday night was attended by both Salman and Katrina.

But they came in separately, spent time with different groups of people. Even though they came face-to-face, they didn’t interact with each other. They were at the party for around an hour and left alone.

People who saw them at the party are now thinking if the two are even together anymore.

Katrina was a gracious host at Salman’s Id party a few days ago but he ignored her completely.

Parag is now a numbed soul, zombied, blank, unmoved — the new entrant to Barrack number 2 and its mini world within — a clear misfit and sitting target for anyone who had anything against clean cut, good looking, upper middle-class boys, it’s a nightmare that’s only just begun, compounded by dirty, crowded spaces, inedible food, hostile cellmates, angry policemen and weird rules of the place.

From the comfort of his numbness, Parag slowly steps out to actually see and understand the world around him — the world of arrests, court cases, pending cases, years of waiting, broken hearts, shattered souls — some sad people in search of hope and those who had found their happiness within the four walls too... slowly Parag lets himself feel the helplessness and the anger, rebelling, questioning, hurting himself to gradually learn to accept his Fate and begin to find a steely resolve within.

Souls like Parag, who were willing to accept any answer that seemed to quieten his questioning mind...

What begins now is a race to the finish between the powerful forces of the place that can offer Parag his freedom and Nawaab’s friendship that can only offer Faith and Hope.

In the end what would you choose? Freedom or Hope?

Exploring life’s tough choices through Parag Dixit’s journey, Jail is a complex fabric of human emotions that is eventually a metaphor for life itself...

Shahrukh Has No Time For Farah Khan?

Shah Rukh Khan it seems is preferring to shoot Anubhav Sinha (Dus, Cash) directed action thriller Ra.1 rather than going in for Farah Khan's Happy New Year after he completes My Name Is Khan. Both Ra.1 and Happy New Year are being made under the King Khan's home banner Red Chillies Entertainment.

A source reveals, "SRK was earlier in two minds whether to go on floors first with Farah's film or Anubhav Sinha's. But apparently he has made up his mind to do the action adventure movie Ra.1, which has a superhero backdrop.

It will begin shooting from early next year and will be extensively shot on foreign locations. Shah Rukh has already begun preparing for the role by working out on his physique and is again aiming to acquire 6-pack abs.

He was also recently quoted stating, “I want to put on my tights and my kids blanket on my back. I want to do this film for my children.

I’ve always wanted to make a superhero film, but I never had six-pack abs. Now that I have them, I want to do this. It’s not an animation film, as many people believe; I would like to clarify that. It’s a live action film.” Farah Khan's film, our source adds, will now go on floors in end of 2010.

Wife Sweared To Kill?

Alas This could be the hardest outburst of a wife yearning for her husband’s love and affection. It’s all about choreographer-filmmaker Prabhu Deva, his wife Ramalath and actress Nayanthara.

According to sources, recently, Nayanthara flew all the way from Kolkata to Mumbai to catch Prabhu Deva’s movie, Wanted.

She wanted to watch the movie with him in a multiplex and see the public reaction. She returned to Kolkata the same evening. Prabhu Deva was also reportedly seen dropping her off at the airport. Prabhu Deva and Nayanthara have been in a close relationship for the past couple of months. They’ve been traveling together across various places and indeed plan to get married shortly.

But Prabhu Deva’s wife Ramalath has openly stated that she would take Prabhu Deva to task if he desolates her and marries Nayanthara. When things are working out, Ramalath strongly admits that she will go to any extreme, even killing Nayanthara, to get her husband back.

Precisely responding to the frustrated statement by Prabhu’s wife, Nayanthara utters, “I am really wondering why she’s getting so excited merely by reading rumors. I and Prabhu Deva are good friends and we aren’t planning to get married.”

Aamir's 3 Idiots With Kareena?

Though 3 Idiots is not his home production, Aamir Khan has begun taking a keen interest in the project. Mr Perfectionist has been holding private screenings of the film for groups of people close to him to get honest feedback and accordingly, seek modifications.

Says a source, "He has been holding screenings for his family members, friends as well as some film folk. After the screening, he goes up to each guest to provide a candid view of the film. He asks them what they like and do not and why."

Out at Christmas
An adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's book Five Point Someone, 3 Idiots is produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The movie has Kareena Kapoor as Aamir's co-star. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi also feature in the film. It is slated for a Christmas release.

The actor had followed a similar procedure for his directorial debut Taare Zameen Par and then accordingly edited the film.

Adds the source, "Aamir keenly values these feedbacks. He makes notes and then discusses it with the director. By gauging the select audience reactions at the outset, he knows what exactly will go down with the audience."

Mr Perfectionist is known to involve himself totally in every project he does, irrespective who the producer and director is. His observations and comments are valued as it is for the betterment of the project. Even during Ghajini, he had involved himself completely.

Aamir Khan remained unavailable for comment.

Giselli Monteiro & Imtiaz Ali Teamed Up Again

Giselli Monteiro, the Brazilian-turned-Punjabi kudi in Love Aaj Kal, may team up with director Imtiaz Ali again; for a soap ad. It will be shot in Rajasthan on October 2.

Says Imtiaz, "I want Giselli to do the ad. But it's a full-on gori-memsaab's part. It's rather ironic that a Brazilian girl has acquired such a strong desi image. Giselli, with her black hair and Indian features and her Harleen image from LAK doesn't fitting the bill for the gori mem's ad."

The commercial requires a Caucasian girl whereas Giselli after Love Aaj Kal has acquired a strong Indian image. It is learnt that Imtiaz's efforts to convince the people behind the ad are still on.

Koena Got Tattoos Resembling Jewellery

Koena Mitra has now added another tattoo on her left ankle. She already sports a tattoo on her waist and finger. While, she has 'love' written on her ring finger, she has a chain inked on her belly.

She got the most recent tat at Aalim's studio in Versova. This is her first design in colour. She reveals, "It is red and black. It's like a chain with the thorns in the shape of spiky hearts in the knots. I didn't want to do a big tattoo or faces or motifs. This way, I can keep them hidden when I want to."

Comparing notes
Koena's tattoo was done over a period of over four hours, she reveals, "My belly chain tattoo took over seven hours to be made but the ankle tattoo was more painful as it was more over bone and muscle.

It was done by Abhinandan Basu, who has a very steady hand and is extremely fast - yet I had to keep taking breaks as the pain was unbearable at times."

She adds that smaller tattoos take much longer, "While the belly chain required seven needles my ankle chain required 13 tattoo needles."

Koena says her ankle tattoo will be to represent jewellery. "I don't like wearing jewels everyday so the anklet tattoo is more like jewellery."

Karisma Kapoor Mum On Pregnancy Rumours

Actress Karisma Kapur says she may make a comeback with a David Dhawan film but stayed tight-lipped on rumours about her pregnancy.

The rumour mills were abuzz that the 35-year-old is in her first trimester after she was recently noticed with a baby bump in a seven-star hotel in Mumbai.

"If something happens, everyone will come to know on its own, " Karisma told.

Married to Delhi-based businessman Sanjay Kapur, Karisma has a four-year-old daughter Samaira.

She was in the capital Wednesday to kick off the "Almonds - The All Natural Taste of a Good Life" campaign launched by the Almond Board of California.

One of the leading actresses of her time, Karisma took a sabbatical from the big screen after her marriage in 2003.

Asked how she has been keeping busy all these years, she said: "I have been keeping pretty busy with my family. I have also done some reality shows, endorsements and promotions. So it has been a great balance for me."

"I started when I was 15. My first movie ('Prem Qaidi') released before even my 16th birthday. Then, when I got married, I realised I had literally worked like a dog. I had worked in 82 movies and that's quite a lot. So I just enjoy the break and it's a great balance now. At least I am not running from studio to studio like a mad person, " she explained.

Post-marriage, Karisma was only been seen as a judge on the reality shows "Nach Baliye 4" (2008) and "Hans Baliye" (2009), apart from a cameo in Shah Rukh Khan starrer "Om Shanti Om" (2007).

Two of her delayed films, "Mere Jeevan Saathi" and "Zamaanat", were released in 2006 and 2009 respectively.

So no chances of a comeback for Karisma on the silver screen?

"It feels nice if people want me back. I'm offered a lot of scripts but I have not accepted anything yet because I haven't felt the burning desire to jump into a film right now. But may be, in a while, when the family and everything is settled, I will, " she said.

"I have always followed my gut feeling. I am just waiting to get that vibe. I should just feel it from within. I just don't want to do a project that will create an unnecessary buzz, etc until I get a script. It's better to wait and be safe than be sorry", she added.

Karisma had a successful stint with director David Dhawan. They gave hits like "Jodi No.1", "Haseena Maan Jaayegi" and "Biwi No.1" and also teamed up after nine years to judge the reality show "Hans Baliye".

On being asked if she would ever work again with Dhawan, she said: "Davidji has really been pestering me to do a movie. During 'Hans Baliye' also he used to call me back (into films). He's working on a script for me, so once that is ready, may be I'll do it."

Probed more on the script, she said: "I can't say anything more on that right now."

The four-time Filmfare award winning actress is also ready to work with Govinda, with whom she has done movies like "Raja Babu", "Dulaara", "Khuddar", "Coolie No.1", "Saajan Chale Sasural", "Hero No.1", "Haseena Maan Jaayegi" and "Shikari".

"Why not? But at the end of the day, the script will be the king, " Karisma pointed out.

Mandira Bedi Is Not A Film Person

Mandira Bedi has been seen on the small screen for several years and has done a few movies as well. But the actress- cum-anchor says she is not too much into films as filmmakers often don't know what kind of roles to offer her.

"I don't consider myself a film person. I have done four films in my whole life. If something good comes along or interesting comes along - like a role I could sink my teeth into, I would consider doing it, " Mandira told.

The actress, who was seen in movies like "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge", "Shaadi Ka Laddoo" and "Meerabai Not Out", says the lack of films in her work profile is also because filmmakers are confused about what to do with her.

"I'm offered films but people don't know what to do with me - they offer me item numbers, sister's role in small banners. But I don't want to work with a small banner which is not going to give me anything. And I don't want to be seen as an item person - I don't want that image.

"Also, a lot of mainstream actors are getting into parallel cinema. So what happens to people like us is we don't get much quality work, " she added.

Blue's Title Track Video Shooted

Ahmed Khan claims he demanded that the producers of Blue (Shree Ashtavinayak) shoot a video for the title track of Blue because he didn't want to lose the opportunity to choreograph an AR Rahman tune.

He had a word with the director Anthony D'Souza and lead actor Akshay Kumar and the wheels were set in motion.

Shooting it differently
Khan says, "Anthony and I discussed the video and agreed to shoot it in a very different way, as it is a title track as well as the promotional video. Akshay loved the idea and gave his dates immediately." The video was shot over three days at Film City last week."

He continues, "It is a very wild song. I have given hip-hop dance movies along with some stunts. I have made Akki and Zayed jump from trampolines. Akshay was more than willing to do his daredevil stunts. Zayed Khan, who loves hip-hop, had many inputs to give.

The look of the boys is very funky and Lara is in a sensuous and sexy mode. We also have on board the dancers from the reality show India's Got Talent."

Deepika Don't Want To Win A Beauty Pageant

Model-turned-actress Deepika Padukone says she always wanted to carve a niche for herself in the glamour industry but without participating in a beauty pageant, unlike many of her colleagues.

"I had set up an objective to become a model without winning any beauty pageants, " Deepika told choreographer- turned-director Farah Khan on STAR Plus' "Tere Mere Beach Mein".

But the actress didn't give any specific reason for her aversion to taking part in beauty contests.

A lot of Indian actresses including Aishwarya Rai, Sushmita Sen, Celina Jaitley, Lara Dutta and Dia Mirza joined Bollywood after earning fame through national and international beauty pageants.

Lara Dutta Found Indian Men Borings

In an exclusive backstage chat before she walks the ramp at the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week, actress Lara Dutta tells Shweta Shiware it's a waste expecting Indian guys to dress stylish, and why Sush topples Ash in the style chart. Plus a wrap-up of the finale.

The backstage recesses of the show area is simmering with activity just before Raakesh Agarvwal's show, manifesting itself in an unsettling quiet before a stylish storm breaks through. Actress Lara Dutta walks in nonchalantly, and on time.

She seets herself down to get her make-up and hair done, looking comfortable in a worn-out Ed Hardy tee, ripped jeans and animal print wedges. She juggles two phones - an iPhone and a Blackberry - alligning them on the dressing table to match her line of vision.

Fashion has been a familiar playground, she admits, with international supermodels Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista, and Indian counterparts Madhu Sapre and Mehr Jesia inspiring the little Lara to preen like a model in family photographs. "I understood couture as early as 10, " she smiles before getting ready to take our volley of questions. "Shoot."

Who is the most stylish beauty pageant winner - Priyanka Chopra, Aishwarya Rai or Sushmita Sen?
Sushmita, of course. I appreciate her personal style. She doesn't believe in sticking to rules.

And what's Lara's personal style?
It depends on my mood. I am inspired by the classic styles of the 1920s, 40s and 50s. But I am not a fashion victim. I invest in pieces that stay relevant irrespective of cyclical trends.

Which designers sit in your wardrobe?
Shahab Durazi, Tarun Tahiliani and Raakesh Agarvwal. Among the international lot, if I am feeling young, it's Dolce & Gabbana and Roberto Cavalli. For classic styles, it's Armani and Valentino.

How long do you take to get ready?
If I am not walking the ramp or a red carpet, not more than 30 minutes. And that includes hair, make-up and dressing up.

Indian designers are taking an active interest in styling Bollywood films. Has style overridden substance?
My experience in modelling has helped me in Bollywood, as far as confidence with clothes is concerned. With Bunty aur Babli, Aki Narula changed the way masses dressed.

In Tashan, each character was individually styled, and the trailers looked fabulous. But the film didn't do well. A huge PR machinery was at work to promote Bebo's shoes in Kambakkht Ishq.

I've worn an expensive Alexander McQueen dress in my next release, Houseful, for all of 30 seconds. Producers understand the needs of global viewers.

They know that the audience won't go, "Kya pehna hai!" after looking at a fashionable outfit. If they (producers) are spending lakhs on outfits and accessories, they will make sure it's all publicised.

Who makes it to the most stylish Bollywood stars list?
Sonam Kapoor makes an effort to look fashionable. I like that about her. Among men, it's Shahrukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan. They have an inherent sense of style.

Do you think Indian men need to make an attempt to dress more stylish?
Men don't really believe in taking chances. They are a boring lot (laughs).

Actors who walk for designers are handsomely paid...
I haven't charged a dime for this show. I have done it because I genuinely like Raakesh's clothes - they are avant-garde and cutting edge. Else, I walk for friends. It takes me back to my modelling days (winks).

Any fashion fetish?
I have one, a really bad shoe fetish. I can't divulge how many pairs I have. Easily over 100. Shoes matter. What sort, doesn't. So, I have everything from Kolhapuri chappals to Louboutins.

Dia Mirza Said To Karan Johar - Once is Enough!

After playing a cameo in Dharma Production's Kurbaan, Dia Mirza has now refused to play a cameo in the banner's next I Hate Love Stories directed by debutant Punit Malhotra.

If sources are to be believed Dia didn't want to play a cameo in the movie although she liked the script.

A source reveals, "The movie stars Sonam Kapoor opposite Sammir Dattani with Imran Khan in the parallel lead.

The script required a lady actress opposite Imran and Punit zeroed down on Dia Mirza as she aptly suited the role. The director had a meet with Dia and everything was finalised.

But when Punit was on his recce to New Zealand, Dia sent him a letter where she mentioned that she wouldn't be able to be a part of the movie as she is busy with other commitments."

The source continues, "Punit is keen to have Dia on board the project and hasn't found a replacement. The recording and script reading for the other actors have started but the search for Dia's replacement is on."

A source close to Dia reveals, "She had refused to do the film when offered to her, so there was no question of her opting out."

Punit Malhotra remained unavailable for comment.

Soha Liplocked With Emraan Hashmi Twicely

Though there was buzz that Soha Ali Khan had refused a liplock with Emraan Hashmi in Tum Mile, she has kissed the actor not once but twice over!

The snapshot above shows that Saif Ali Khan's sister has puckered up with her co-star (known for his on-screen smooches) though with great reservations.

Says director Kunal Deshmukh, "I told Soha at the outset that the script demanded one kiss which was to be in a song. Though she had agreed to it, when it came to the shoot, she had second thoughts."

It is learnt that the actress needed a lot of convincing to do the scene. Finally, when the director explained the context to her, she performed the sequence in one shot." But things did not end there. Kunal later felt there was a need for another liplock. "Soha had agreed to kiss during a song sequence. But while shooting, I realised that one more scene needed a kiss."

The director explains that as Soha and Emraan play a live-in couple there had to be physical closeness. "In stead of having the camera all over them, I thought a liplock would say it all. Soha was extremely reluctant but she agreed later."

Says Soha, "I had reservations as this was the first time but after discussions with the director, we went ahead with it. It wasn't in the script, that's why it took me by surprise. But it is a very sweet, tame kiss and is shot in good taste."

Produced by Vishesh Films, Tum Mile is set against the July 2005 Mumbai floods and is slated for a November release.

Movie Review Of "Road"

Vishnu (Abhay Deol), a restless young man, itches to escape his father's faltering hair oil business.

An old truck beckons, which Vishnu sees as his ticket to freedom. He offers to drive the antique Chevy across the desert to the sea, where it has been sold to a local museum.

As he sets off across the harsh terrain of desert India, he discovers he’s not merely transporting a battered vehicle but an old touring cinema.

Along the way, Vishnu reluctantly picks up a young runaway (Mohammed Faizal Usmani), a wandering old entertainer (Satish Kaushik) and a striking gypsy woman (Tannishtha Chatterjee - Brick Lane).

Together they roam the barren land, searching for water and an elusive fair.

The journey turns dire when they are waylaid by corrupt cops and a notorious waterlord.

The key to their freedom is the eccentric collection of films and the two forty-year-old film projectors in the back of the truck.

As in 1001 Nights, if the films are good, they live and move on. If the films are boring, they face death in the outback.

The journey proves transformative for each of the travelers, but especially for Vishnu who discovers life, love and laughter on the Indian highway.

Produced by the US-based Ross Katz and Susan B. Landau, and presented by The Indian Film Company and Studio 18, the script of the Dev Benegal-directed feature was an official selection at L'Atelier du Cannes in 2006.

Udita Goswami Don't Believe In Method Acting

Sizzling hot actress Udita Goswami looked far more stunning as Anuj’s leading lady in the film Chase, as she has put on the macho-woman avatar. She has done some really engaging hand-to-hand stunts in the film.

When asked about the preparation behind attaining the perfection to the T while performing stunts with such ease, she denies any.

“We come on the set, read the script, discuss with directors and give the shot. I don’t think actors really need any kind of preparations for these kinds of sequences. What it takes to chase the villain, take a position, aim the gun and shoot.

Unless it is a really gory stunt like swimming, horse riding etc. we don’t have to actually prepare,” she bluntly opines.

Hope her honesty- the best policy does not do any worse for the film.

Amrita Singh Returned On Big Screen

Amrita Singh is returning to the big screen in a new film. The actress was last seen in the 2007 release Dus Kahaniyaan. Amrita has now signed Milind Uke's romantic comedy titled Aditya met Avantika.

Uke whose Shahid-Ayesha starrer Paathshala is ready for release has begun work on his next. Amrita will be seen as the mother of the main lead in the film.

A source reveals, "Amrita has been very choosy about her work. But when Milind went to her with the subject she readily agreed. She loved the script and her character that is very close to her personality. Despite getting numerous TV and film offers, Amrita has chosen to devote her time to her kids Sara and Ebrahim."

The cast of the film that has two newcomers is presently being shot in Udaipur. Confirming Amrita's presence, Milind says, "Yes she is doing my film though I am yet to shoot with her. But I had a great script discussion with her and am really looking forward to her first schedule with us."

The film will also have Bhagyashree, who has replaced Raveena Tandon. "It's an unusual love story, and we did initially approach Raveena. But since things didn't work out we went to Bhagyashree."

According to Uke, his take on romance will be different from the rest. "The male lead is a pop singer and the female comes from the modeling fraternity. It's an intense love story."

Mahie Gill Fainted On Set Of Mirch

Actress Mahie Gill of "Dev D" fame fainted while shooting a promotional song for her upcoming movie "Mirch".

The actress was shooting for the title track last week in Mumbai and collapsed on the sets.

"Mahie wasn't keeping well for the past two days but despite that she kept on shooting because the promotional song is an integral part of the movie and she didn't want to miss out on her commitments," a source present on the set told.

Mahi, who impressed audiences with her acting prowess in "Dev" as well as "Gulaal", didn't want to miss the filming of the song for one more reason.

"She was very excited to work with dance director Saroj Khan who was choreographing the song. She didn't want to miss out on the opportunity," the source added.

Produced by Big pictures, "Mirch" has been directed by Vinay Shukla. The story revolves around the protagonist Maanav (Arunoday Singh), a struggling filmmaker who threads together four narratives, based on issues of women emancipation, to make a film of his choice.

The cast of "Mirch" also includes Konkana Sen Sharma, Raima Sen, Shahana Goswami, Ila Arun, Shreyas Talpade and Boman Irani.

Shirley Told Mallika How To Make This Big In Hollywood

Mallika Sherawat is on a Hollywood-meets-Bollywood spree in Los Angeles to promote and create awareness for her next release Hisss directed by Jennifer Lynch.

It is learnt that she recently spent some time with legendary American movie star, Shirley MacLaine. They were spotted leaving the Chanel store on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.

They were followed by paparazzi andducked in to a cafe for a late lunch. The meeting between the Oscar-winning actress and Mallika lasted over two hours." A few weeks ago Mallika met Shirley's brother, Warren Beatty, at the Beverly Hills Polo Lounge. It is unclear whether Warren arranged the introduction between the actresses.

A source close to Mallika says, "They discussed films, and gosipped. Shirley told her stories about Billy Wilder and the time when she 'kicked Jack Nicholson in the groin.'

Ms MacLaine also enquired of her film Hisss, as she has long been fascinated by reincarnation and has written nine books on it." Since Hisss deals with reincarnation, the senior actress was quite interested in the film, and asked to see the teaser promo of the film.

Quirky meets drama queen
Shirley is known to be one of the quirkiest Hollywood actresses, just like Mallika who loves drama. Naturally the two bonded like soul sisters, albeit from different generations. MacLaine gave the desi actress tips on how to make it in Hollywood.

The H-Town actresse's best films include Irma la Douce, Steel Magnolias, Terms Of Endearment, The Turning Point, The Apartment, Madame Sousatzka, Closing The Ring, Rumor Has It and Used People among others.
